I have received so much comfort, wisdom and hope when so many promises came to pass from the Lord through faith in His precious Word, the Bible. My mission is to provide you with Words from God that will also give you the same help. Most of my illustrated verses have a simple looking design with maybe a cross or crown, and some have more elaborate illustrations. Since I use clip art added to my hand-lettered style calligraphy, my illustrations range from full color Old Masters fine art to some simple black and white images or symbols.

Gird Thy Sword THE BOOK is a collection of over 3,000 scripture portions that is a treasure trove of BIBLE verses that will encourage, inspire and provide precious nuggets of God’s wisdom. This huge book will speak to anyone who sincerely seeks a word from the Lord. It will amaze you! This book is designed for you to simply open the book ANYWHERE and just begin reading, and keep reading until something stands out to you or gets your attention. “The word of God is living and active and full of power (making it operative, energizing, and effective). It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit, (the completeness of a person), and of both joints and marrow (the deepest parts of our nature), exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 ”. Someone told me, “It will preach!”. My prayer is that it will awaken your faith and ignite a spark of God’s life in you as you develop your ear to hear.

I felt led to produce this book because I believe that anyone wishing to get an encouraging word can simply open the book anywhere and read it until something catches the attention of the reader. The Lord uses His Word to speak to us as we sincerely seek Him.

This book is my own collection of bible verses that have spoken to my heart over many years. Early in my walk with the Lord, as I read my bible, the verse in Jeremiah 30:2 stood out to me. It says: “… Write in a book all the words which I have spoken to you…”. I sensed that the Lord was speaking to me and I literally began writing down verses that inspired me. When I became a Christian, because like many of us, I came to the Lord during a time of crisis in my life. I sincerely sought the Lord through the bible and also intently listened to good preaching and church and on TV, collecting scripture that spoke to my heart in so many ways. I had just learned simple Italic style calligraphy and began hand-lettered these verses as I found them. I used a calligraphy ink pen and parchment paper so that I could post the scripture around my home and on index cards to look at these wonderful promises often to encourage myself. It helped me to remember what I read and gave me a way to focus on my hope in the Lord. My faith grew strong as I learned to use these verses to bring my thoughts back to the hope I had during difficult times in my life. They gave me encouragement, comfort and wisdom.

I discovered that the bible is so much more than boring, hard to understand words. Psalm 45 exhorts us to “Gird Thy Sword”. As the bible says that the Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit, I learned to “Gird Thy Sword” by using the powerful, faith building verses I collected to combat negative thoughts and have faith to see answers to my life problems. As sons and daughters of God, I learned that we are not to accept living in a defeated and hopeless mindset. There are countless times when wonderful things happened in my own life as the Lord gave me a promise and eventually fulfilled it. (And, in fact, He still continues to do so!)

As I kept hand-lettering verses, I decided to add Christian symbols or art clips to create my own scripture art to decorate my home. Then I began to give them as gifts to help others. A friend encouraged me to make them more widely available so I bought equipment and supplies to reproduce my original designed scriptures into many types of products. With printing equipment, I was now able to resize and reproduce my original designs to make prints of my work. I worked to produce designs that would be encouraging for many people and now thousands of verses are available as products. I continue to design more of the verses from my lifelong collection of wonderful verses. I once sold on consignment in a few bible bookstores and at craft fairs and even tried Home Scripture Parties but now I am exclusively online.

Over the years I have kept on collecting scripture verses, sometimes just a few words or portions of a verse,and now there are thousands of scripture portions saved in my book. One day I decided to print out my collection and had it spiral bound into a book and made a cover that said Gird Thy Sword. It was sitting on my living room coffee table because I enjoyed often picking it up and reading a random page, getting a quick word of encouragement as I remembered the time the Lord told me something, then it came to pass. One day a neighbor came over and looked at it, then asked me what it was for. As she picked it up and browsed through it randomly, she was encouraged with a verse. At first I was sort of taken back because she knew, of course, that I did scripture calligraphy because she had several of my items decorating her own home. Then I realized that it was more than a collection of my verses, and wondered if anyone could just pick it up and get an encouraging word. I got excited and “tested” this same process by telling family and friends to just open it up anywhere and read until they found something interesting. It worked for everyone! Even teens and younger kids as well as some men that my husband knew that never even pick up a bible. Everyone I could ask got “tested”! I sincerely felt like the Lord was leading me to produce this book and make it available because many people don’t read their bibles much, but will pick up a book like this to get a quick word. Promise books selectively put verses into categories, but I felt that it was not necessary, as I didn’t want to limit the way the Holy Spirit would guide people find their own word, so I decided to just organize this book like the books of the bible.

My prayer is that you will find this a handy resource. And, as a saying goes, “Try it. You’ll like it!”
